The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) signed a partnership agreement with the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour at BTA's National Press Club on Monday. The document was signed by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Podkrepa President Dimitar Manolov.

The agreement covers materials that BTA will receive from the Confederation of Labour with copyright cleared. Valchev noted that this is particularly important when it comes to photographs, video footage or texts containing copyrighted content.

Dimitar Manolov said at the signing: "Among all national media outlets, BTA stands out for its quality. Unfortunately, what can be seen here is not always visible elsewhere, and this should not be taken as criticism of other national media, but rather as praise for you. You have made BTA very different from what it was before your tenure, and I believe it will continue to develop. We highly value what is happening at BTA."

For his part, Kiril Valchev said: "I hope that any future government will accept the arguments of the two major trade unions - the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour and the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) - that support for quality journalism, which Bulgaria needs, is demonstrated through the country's three public media outlets."

He recalled that thanks to Podkrepa and CITUB, the allocations for state media salaries included increases of 10% in the first budget proposal and 15% in the second. However, both budget proposals were rejected.
