site.btaBulgaria’s Finance Minister Thanks ECOFIN for Continuous Support on the Way to Euro Area


The European Commission and the ECB presented Friday the convergence reports for Bulgaria to the regular meeting of the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council, which took place in Luxembourg, the Ministry of Finance reported. Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova attended the meeting.
The ministers welcomed the recommendation adopted by the Eurogroup for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria from January 1, 2026. The President of ECOFIN sent a letter to the European Council on Bulgaria's accession to the euro area on January 1, 2026. Minister Petkova thanked for the objective assessment, as well as for the continuous support and constructive cooperation throughout the process of preparation for joining the euro area, the message said.
The Presidency presented a progress report on the Customs Union reform. Minister Petkova said that Bulgaria supports the main principles of the Customs Union reform package. The reform is a strategic response to the growing challenges faced by customs administrations and economic operators in an increasingly complex global environment.
In the framework of her visit to Luxembourg, Minister Petkova held a working meeting with Pierre Gramegna, Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism, the release said.
