site.btaSofia to Welcome 6,000 Runners at Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025

Sofia is preparing to welcome over 6,000 runners from more than 60 countries at this year's 42nd edition of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025.
On October 11 and 12, professional runners and amateurs will gather in the country's capital to participate in Bulgaria's largest athletics marathon, competing in distances of 5 km, 10 km, a half marathon of 21.1 km, and a classic marathon of 42.195 km.
The programme for the 2025 event will be more intense than ever and will cover two consecutive days filled with competitive energy, cultural events, and many surprises for both competitors and the public, according to marathon sponsor Wizz Air.
This season's race route includes some of the city's most picturesque spots, starting and finishing in front of the National Art Gallery and passing through iconic locations such as the National Assembly, Largo, and the Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
All successful finishers will receive a medal, and for the main disciplines there will be a prize fund with financial awards for those who finish in first to tenth place. For the classic distance, these start at BGN 500 for tenth place and go up to BGN 6,000 for the winner. In addition, Wizz Air encourages participants in the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon to join as many of the airline's sponsored marathons (WIZZ Run Series) in Europe as possible in 2025 and earn points for every kilometer run (1 kilometer run = 1 point). The best male and female runners with the most points will receive four All You Can Fly subscriptions from WIZZ for one year. Those who finish second will receive a WIZZ voucher worth EUR 1,000, and those who finish third will receive a WIZZ voucher worth EUR 800.
"The Wizz Air Sofia Marathon is more than just a race – it's an event where thousands of runners from all over the world turn the streets of Sofia into a lively celebration of endurance, cultural diversity, and international travel. For us, supporting this event means connecting people from different destinations, but also with different values, from healthy lifestyles to eco-friendly ways of traveling. We are proud to support an initiative that is linked to both personal achievements and the common goal of a cleaner and more active Europe," commented Anastasia Novak, Corporate Sustainability and Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
Anyone wishing to participate in the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 has until September 30 to register on the official website of the event https://sofiamarathon.bg/. Both professional athletes and hobby runners can register. Until September 20, registration is at regular prices, after which, from September 21 to 30, there will be a special late registration period at higher prices for last-minute registrants.
