The price of the consumer basket is BGN 1 lower this week, from BGN 98 to BGN 97, Velizar Georgiev, a member of the  State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets, said at a press conference. He said that the decrease is entirely due to the variation in the prices of fruits and vegetables.

The wholesale prices of tomatoes went down by BGN 0.19 per kg, peaches depreciated by BGN 0.21 per kg, carrots by BG 0.02 per kg, cabbage by BGN 0.05, green pepper by BGN 0.24, onions by BGN 0.12, red pepper by BGN 0.09, potatoes by BGN 0.04, apricots by BGN 0.30 and apples by BGN 0.03. Watermelons maintained their price from last week.

An increase in wholesale prices was observed for cucumbers by BGN 0.30., and for lemons and zucchini - by BGN 0.20.

Among basic food products, pork went up in price by BGN 0.07, flour by BGN 0.06, white brined cheese - by BGN 0.09, butter – by BGN 0.06 and sunflower oil - by BGN 0.09. The goods that went down in price were  yellow kashkaval cheese, by BGN 0.11, fresh milk by BGN 0.01 and yogurt, by BGN 0.02.

The goods that retained their wholesale prices were sugar, beans, rice, eggs and chicken.

Georgiev noted that the variations were very small and insignificant, and no uncharacteristic influences on the market were detected, except for seasonal factors caused by climatic phenomena. He presented the changes in wholesale product prices from May 20 to the present.

Georgiev said that we are observing a normal market with characteristic seasonal fluctuations. No phenomena outside normal market relations were identified during the period.
