Commenting the 2026 budget procedure, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that "everybody wants more but we have set a 3% deficit target". The MP and former prime minister was speaking here on Tuesday at a forum entitled Regional Defence Summit 2025 and organized by Capital.
Borissov said: "Other than young doctors and young teachers, young investigators, and young people, young mothers and fathers, they all want more. But we have a 3% target. What is more important – to bridge the gap and join the eurozone on January 1, 2026, or to bring up the topic of who gave money to whom?"
According to Borissov, the only chance for a government and stability was this one—with a majority formed by GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People, BSP - United Left, and the MRF - New Beginning. He added: "I am really mad, because our colleagues from Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria, even in such strategic areas, showed narrow-mindedness and could not see this."
Borissov said: "Why didn't we give young doctors money right away? Can you remember the time when we wanted to protect a 3% deficit and what agenda was imposed on us?". Medical students and young doctors have been protesting for months with demands for adequate pay.
