Parliament Deputy Chair Dragomir Stoynev, Floor Leader of BSP-United Left, said the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is ready for a change in the tax and social security system. He addressed a conference titled "Time for a Review: How Has This Tax System Served Us So Far?", organized by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) on Tuesday.
He said he was speaking from experience because it was a BSP-led government that introduced the flat tax rate.
Stoynev said that three years ago, BSP launched a discussion on the tax and social security system, and is ready to initiate talks with its partners in the present government as well. "For the sake of the State, we must start an open conversation, and I am glad that CITUB will be a partner in this debate," he said.
"We cannot continue with this flat tax if we want to have a State," the MP also said. The change will not happen in 2026, but the current model has been exhausted and is no longer fair, according to Stoynev.
