Customs officers detained over 7,600 items of goods with global brand names due to suspicions of intellectual property rights violations at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, the Svilengrad branch of the Customs Agency press service said on Thursday.

The goods were discovered during an inspection of a truck with Polish registration, driven by a Bulgarian citizen. The driver presented documents stating that he was transporting textile products from Turkiye to the Netherlands. Customs inspectors identified 7,637 items of clothing and 20 pairs of slippers with global trademark signs among the declared cargo. The items were detained in accordance with the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of Europe on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

Since the beginning of 2025, customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo have detained over 600,000 items for violating intellectual property rights, over 300,000 of which were textile products. According to data from the Customs Agency, a total of 1,255,516 counterfeit items were found at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint in 2024, which marked a 15% increase compared to 2023.
