Petrich Municipality is launching a campaign to attract tourists from Romania, Petrich History Museum Director Katya Stoyanova told BTA on Wednesday.

She noted that the first steps taken to promote sites of Petrich in Romania were implemented through campaigns with exhibitions in Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. Stoyanova specified that now the focus will be on the Romanian market, as for tourists who travel to the sea in Greece it is very convenient to take their breaks and vacations in Petrich.

"We already have several organized visits to Heraclea Sintica and tour operator agencies from Romania saw that it is a very good location. Before spending their summer vacation at the sea in Greece, tourists come for cultural tourism, which they combine with wine tourism precisely in Petrich Region," she emphasized.

In order to attract more tourists, Petrich Municipality has put up billboards in Romanian focusing on Heraclea Sintica and the Vanga House-Museum, Stoyanova said. Another billboard with information about the sites in Bulgarian and English has been placed before the Kulata border crossing checkpoint as well.

In the fall, the Municipality will participate in a tourist exhibition in Bucharest. "We believe that there is significant potential and the first results of our campaign are already visible," the Museum Director noted.
