The President of Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute (NSI). Atanas Atanasov, called for expert contributions to lead to effective governance and positive outcomes. He was speaking at the third annual conference of the Council for Economic Analysis (CEA) which takes place Monday and Tuesday at Sofia University.
Atanasov highlighted that recent years have seen increasingly dynamic and often unpredictable global and regional developments. Against the backdrop of escalating military conflicts, dangerous climate change, energy shortages, and social division on key issues, Bulgaria faces a pivotal economic step — joining the eurozone.
“In the context of eurozone accession, this year’s conference will focus on critical areas such as monetary and fiscal policy, labor markets, the housing market, financial markets, inflation, and economic growth,” Atanasov said, adding that NSI regularly provides statistical data on these topics.
He emphasized that NSI’s presence at the CEA conference reflects the institute’s ongoing support for the Council since its inception. According to Atanasov, economic and social policies should be based on timely, accessible, and objective data — a principle the NSI is committed to upholding.
Atanasov also pointed to the shared mission of NSI and the CEA in combating misinformation in Bulgaria. “Given the significance and sensitivity of the topics on the agenda, this conference is a valuable opportunity for us to unite efforts in presenting objective data, conducting professional analyses, and proposing sound policy solutions,” he concluded.
