“We are working on establishing a ‘People’s Store’ network,” said Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov during a parliamentary Q&A session with the Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Forestry, Tahov's Ministry reported Thursday.
He said that the finalization of the company’s establishment documents is currently underway. These include the articles of association, which define the name, address, and scope of activities for the public enterprise, as well as draft versions of a Council of Ministers Decree and Decision.
The creation of the single-shareholder joint-stock company (EAD), with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food as the sole owner of the capital, has been mandated by the State Budget Act. Its aim is to establish a retail chain offering Bulgarian goods and essential products with minimal markup.
According to Minister Tahov, a product list for the “People’s Store” is also being prepared.
“Our goal is not to compete with existing retail chains but to facilitate access to essential goods for citizens who live in areas lacking nearby food supply options,” Minister Tahov emphasized.
