site.btaAmbassador Plank Confirms to Interior Minister Germany's Support for Bulgaria Joining Schengen

German Ambassador to Bulgaria Irene Plank confirmed Germany's consistent support for Bulgaria and Romania joining the Schengen area at a meeting with caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev here on Friday, the Interior Ministry said on its website.

Plank and Demerdzhiev discussed priorities and opportunities for deepening cooperation in the field of home affairs, Bulgaria's accession to Schengen, the current migration situation, and other issues of mutual interest.

Minister Demerdzhiev briefed the German Ambassador on Bulgaria's progress in the protection of the European borders as well as on current initiatives of the Bulgarian side that will contribute to regional and European security.

Both sides praised the excellent level of bilateral cooperation and underlined their readiness to hold regular meetings to discuss topical issues.
