Under a decision of the Council of Ministers, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) will develop a state aid scheme to support the competitiveness of Bulgaria’s heavy goods road transport. The one-off aid will amount to up to BGN 50 million, or EUR 25,564,594.06.
The sector, which is vital for sustaining trade and industrial activity, has been affected by global changes in trade routes and logistics chains. The significant increase in fuel prices and the need to redirect transport routes have led to higher costs. One-off state aid would provide the necessary financial relief, enabling carriers to cope with increased fuel expenses and the decline in freight transport, and to continue providing high-quality services. In this way, opportunities will be created to enhance the competitiveness of the Bulgarian transport industry and to generate higher future budget revenues based on increased turnover of delivered transport services.
The Road Infrastructure Agency must take the necessary steps to notify the European Commission through the Ministry of Finance.
