Eleven drawings by Bulgarian painter Georges Papazoff (1894-1972) went on display at the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island, said the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI) on Tuesday.

Papazoff was among the first surrealists. He became prominent in Paris and worked and died in France.

The drawings were provided by collector and philanthropist Gueorgui Vassilev. The exhibition is curated by art critic Maria Vassileva. Both of them presented Papazoff's works at the opening event.

Displaying the drawings in one of the remotest locations on the planet is in unison with the artist's propensity to push boundaries, the BAI said.
