The total business climate indicator decreased by 3.1 percentage points (pp) in December 2025 compared to the previous month, from 16.1% to 13%, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on Tuesday. A reduction of the indicator was registered in all observed sectors – industry, construction, retail trade and services.

A check with the NSI shows that 2025 began with an increase in the construction index. In industry, it remained at approximately the same level as in December 2024, while a decline was recorded in retail trade and the service sector.

The composite indicator 'business climate in retail trade' registered the most significant drop at 5.2 pp from 29.9% to 24.7%. It was followed by the service sector with 3.9 pp, construction with 2.3 pp, and industry with 2.1 pp.

Companies list the uncertain economic environment, competition, low demand, labour shortages, and the costs of materials as the main factors that hinder their operations.
