The energy regulators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova approved the proposal made by the respective countries' operators for the capacity products Route 2 and Route 3 for the supply of gas from Greece to Ukraine by the end of April 2026, Bulgaria's natural gas transmission and storage system operator Bulgartransgaz reported on Friday. Routes 2 and 3 will be auctioned together with Route 1, which has already established itself on the market.

The auction for January will take place on December 22, 2025. The proposal initiated by Bulgartransgaz EAD to create an opportunity to increase the capacity of the three routes by transferring the remaining unbooked capacity at Ruse/Giurgiu to Negru Voda 1/Kardam was also approved.

Bulgartransgaz EAD Executive Director Vladimir Malinov said that increasing the total capacity and the availability of the three complementary route products creates additional opportunities for Ukraine to secure the necessary supplies during the winter season.

Malinov added: "The tariff discounts provided by Bulgartransgaz and the other operators for the purposes of the route products will contribute to meeting the natural gas demand on the Ukrainian market. This is of utmost importance to ensure the security of the energy supplies in the region."

Bulgartransgaz quoted Malinov as saying: "Having signed the joint proposal at the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) forum in Athens, in the presence of US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and the energy ministers from the countries of the region, with today's approval from regulators, we are completing the process of increasing the capacity to meet the needs of Ukraine and the region."

Route 1 is Kulata/Sidirokastro - Negru Voda 1/Kardam - Isaccea/Orlivka - Causeni - Grebeniki.

Route 2 is Amfitriti - Komotini - Stara Zagora - Negru Voda 1/Kardam - Isaccea/Orlivka - Causeni - Grebeniki.

Route 3 is Komotini - Stara Zagora - Negru Voda 1/Kardam - Isaccea/ Orlivka - Causeni - Grebeniki.
