Gas transmission operators in Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine are continuing their joint efforts to increase the capacity offered through Routes 1 and 2 at competitive prices said Vladimir Malinov, CEO of Bulgartransgaz EAD during his participation in the 36th Greek Economic Forum in Athens on Wednesday, the company announced.
Malinov pointed out that it is technically possible to transfer the available unreserved capacity at the Ruse/Giurgiu interconnection point to Negru Voda 1/Kardam during the winter period from January to April 2026.
During the panel discussion on the Vertical Corridor, Malinov and Maria Rita Galli, the CEO of Greece's DESFA, signed a joint letter from Bulgartransgaz, DESFA, Vestmoldtransgaz, Transgaz, Gas TSO of Ukraine, and ICGB addressing the countries' regulators for approval of the transfer. "To improve conditions and ensure a uniform price for the capacity offered at Negru Voda 1/ Kardam on route products, Bulgartransgaz is offering a discount of over 36%," said Malinov, as quoted in the statement.
The participants drew attention to the strategic role of the Vertical Corridor in achieving common European energy independence goals. According to Malinov, implementing the project is also a vital component of the European Union's REPowerEU plan to reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels. Malinov stressed that the US administration is playing a leading role in this process by providing additional quantities of American liquefied natural gas to Europe.
