site.btaFairytales Brought to Life in "A Thousand and One Images" Ballet in Veliko Tarnovo


More than 50 children and 12 mothers took on the roles of beloved fairytale characters in the ballet performance A Thousand and One Images, staged by the Nadezhda 1869 Community Centre in Veliko Tarnovo on the evening of July 14. The production was performed on the landmark Tsarevets Hill in the medieval Bulgarian capital and was part of the children's and youth programme “Stage of the Ages – A Look into the Future”, held during the town’s 10th Summer Opera Season. The programme was opened on July 10 with the performance Behind the Curtain – or How to Become a Ballerina.
The audience enjoyed classic characters such as Pippi Longstocking, Little Red Riding Hood, Thumbelina, Rapunzel, Ariel, The Little Match Girl, The Golden Girl, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, The Doll Fairy, Swanhilda from Coppélia, Masha from The Nutcracker, Columbine, and Alice. The musical score featured works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Chopin, Debussy, Bayer, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Delibes, and Tchaikovsky.
The performance was directed by Marin Udvarev, with Magdalena Hristova as rehearsal coach and multimedia design by Tsvetelin Radev. Costumes were created by Olga Atroshenko and Nadezhda Nikolova.
The final event in the young audience lineup will be the concert A New Beginning, to be held on October 4 at the Palace of Culture and Sports in Veliko Tarnovo, marking the 30th anniversary of the vocal group Bon-Bon.
