The Directions exhibition, which features artists from francophone countries, opened on Tuesday in the Mission gallery of the State Institute for Culture, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Bulgaria's full membership in  the International Organisation of La Francophonie. It will be open to visitors until April 18.

Vice President Iliana Iotova and Snezhana Yoveva, Director of the State Institute of Culture. Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov was also present at the event.

"As an international organization, La Francophonie provides unparalleled opportunities for cooperation, partnership, uncovering potential and searching together for common solutions in an, unfortunately, lately quite complex world, in which firstly a good orientation is needed, and secondly - a dialogue between as many countries, societies and people as possible, so that we can overcome the crises together," the Vice President said in her opening speech.

The exhibition showcases some of the works of artists who participated in the international plein air events organized by the Soleil Foundation in the last eleven years within the framework of the Soleil International Francophone Festival. This year, its twelfth edition is dedicated to 30 years of Bulgaria's membership in La Francophonie.

Pupils and students read excerpts from works by authors from francophone countries at the opening of the exhibition.

The purpose of the event was combining the various arts, painting and literature from different countries in the Francophone area, to present its best sides. The academic community and schools participated in the initiatives. The programme of celebrations throughout the year will feature a lot of competitive performances by schoolchildren and students. The idea is to highlight the study of French in Bulgarian schools and universities.

The event was part of the Program to mark the 30th anniversary of the full membership of the Republic of Bulgaria in the International Organisation of La Francophonie, which is being realized under the patronage of the Vice President Iliana Iotova
