Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) on the day of its 128th anniversary. The agreement was signed by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and CPD Chair Elka Bozhova at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia.

Valchev said that BTA and the Commission have enjoyed good cooperation over the years and voiced hope that, through this agreement, the two sides would help build greater public sensitivity toward people with disabilities.

He explained that, in addition to systematically providing information about the Commission’s work, BTA would create a new thematic section entitled “Equal in Dignity and Rights”, the name of the CPD’s initiative, which will provide information on the protection of one of the fundamental principles enshrined in the Constitution – that all people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Valchev added that BTA would also support and promote the Commission’s national campaign “Accessible Bulgaria”. In 2026, BTA will present the accessibility of its press clubs and identify any difficulties. He emphasized that there is not a single inaccessible area for people with disabilities in the BTA building in Sofia.

In turn, Bozhova said that Tuesday marks 20 years since the establishment of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination. She welcomed the future cooperation formalized by the agreement, which will help popularize the Commission’s activities. She also praised BTA’s efforts to make its building accessible to people with disabilities and said that, following an inspection of socially significant buildings, the CPD had decided to award its prize fund to BTA. She added that the award would be presented at a ceremony at the National Archaeological Museum the following day.
