Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev and Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev signed a new agreement for long-term partnership between BTA and the Sofia Municipality in connection with the various cultural programmes, funded by the Municipality. The signing took place on Thursday at Sofia’s Town Hall.
“I am very happy that we are signing this memorandum and that we will have the opportunity to work even more closely so that news related to culture reaches more people and we show that we place culture at an even higher level, not only in words, but also in actions and through our way of communication,” said Mayor Vasil Terziev. He noted that there are numerous programmes and that his team is increasingly ambitious to organize larger cultural events throughout the city.
Kiril Valchev said that one of the main tasks for his second term, for which he was re-elected earlier in the day, is to complete a project called “The World of News.” “Besides transforming the BTA building in terms of energy efficiency, it will be a gift to all the people of Sofia,” he said. The Director General of BTA added that a garden will be created with the continents in greenery, and news from around the world will run on installations designed as “information mushrooms.”
Valchev specified that this agreement makes Sofia the 15th municipality with which BTA has a permanent partnership. He added that there is a positive trend in the coverage of Sofia’s Cultural Calendar.
“Exactly ten years ago, we started with just one piece of news about Sofia’s Cultural Calendar. After the LIK section was created, now every second week there is news. The big goal is to have weekly updates on what is happening in the capital,” he said.
