Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov had his book Death and the Gardener: A Novel named Book of the Year by the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza. The book has been translated into Polish by Magdalena Pytlak.

Death and the Gardener: A Novel is a story about helplessness and horror, but also about that special calmness that can arise in the face of the irreversible. In this case, it is the death of the narrator's father in his home in Sofia, the Polish newspaper wrote. Gospodinov not only observes himself, his own reactions and emotions, but also gives voice to a man who is dying of cancer.
