A new concise encyclopaedic book titled Antarctica – History, Nature, Bulgarian Polar Explorers was presented by National Centre for Polar Studies Director Hristo Pimpirev at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski on Thursday.
The edition, created together with photographer Iglika Trifonova, differs from Pimpirev’s previous works on Antarctica. It is a brief encyclopaedic publication, Pimpirev said at the presentation of the book, which he worked on together with photographer Trifonova. The book was presented on December 4 in the Aula of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
Spanish writer and scientist Javier Cacho Gomez was a guest at the event.
Special musical participation came from maestro Theodosii Spassov and Hristiyan Tsvyatkov, who performed excerpts from their new album of pieces composed on the Ice Continent, Antarctic Tales. At the end of the presentation Spassov and Tsvyatkov played the piece titled Wolf Bay, later renamed Valchev Bay. [Note: the surname Valchev is derivative from Valk, the Bulgarian word for wolf] It is named after Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev, who was among those attending the book launch.
