Photographic exhibitions entitled The Ice of Antarctica and The People of Antarctica by Marina Velikova were opened here on Saturday, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI) said.

The exhibitions, which can be viewed on the pedestrian bridge in the town, reveal both the untouched beauty of Antarctic nature and the human presence, the work, dedication and scientific spirit of the Bulgarian researchers who work at the research base. The photos were taken during the 32nd and 33rd expeditions of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, led by Prof. Hristo Pimpirev.

The opening of the exhibitions was attended by Troyan Mayor Donka Mihaylova, BAI chair Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, Miroslav Sevlievski, as well as the author Marina Velikova. After the official part, the guests told the audience about the life and work of scientists on the Antarctica, the BAI noted.

The exhibitions in Troyan are the third in a series of presentations by Velikova, which also include the photographs being shown on the Bridge of Lovers near the National Palace of Culture in Sofia and The Sea Antarctics exhibition shown in the coastal city of Varna in September.

Currently, Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) is on its fourth Antarctic expedition, and is expected to reach the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island at the end of December.
