site.btaSofia Municipality: 80% of Waste Collection in Lyulin and Krasno Selo Boroughs Now on Schedule

Sofia Municipality said in a press-release on Sunday it has achieved 80% on-schedule waste-collection coverage in the Lyulin and Krasno Selo boroughs. The temporary crisis arrangements in the two boroughs are being eased but not fully lifted.
"In just two weeks, we accomplished what many thought impossible: managing waste collection in two boroughs entirely without contracts. We received external support, but we did so without coercion and without imposing unfair costs on Sofia residents," Deputy Mayor for Ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva said, quoted by Sofia Municipality press service.
The Municipality acknowledged the significant efforts of hundreds of residents who, primarily over the past two weekends and also on weekdays, have swept public areas, collected refuse around waste containers, and transported waste to temporary collection points.
“We are capable of covering the entire territory; however, operational challenges such as equipment failures and employee absences due to sick leave or the need for rest occasionally arise. Currently, we do not have a buffer in place to manage these situations,” Bobcheva added. She said the team hopes to offset shortcomings in the new set-up over the next few days.
Waste collection will proceed on 20 October. Four large refuse trucks will operate in the morning. In the afternoon, two large trucks will cover the main routes and complete the collection.
Two narrow-access vehicles will operate continuously to service hard-to-reach areas. A clamp loader and a hooklift truck will manage bulky waste on site. A rapid-response team will remain on standby to address critical alerts.
Teams will work to task orders issued by the Sofia Inspectorate, and priority remains restoring standard service and the normal rhythm of life for residents of the two boroughs, the Municipality said.
Earlier this week Sofia Municipality said it would pilot scheduled waste collection in Lyulin and Krasno Selo over the weekend.
