Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning (MRF-New Beginning) Floor Leader Delyan Peevski will support GERB Chair Boyko Borissov for National Assembly Chair, MRF-New Beginning said in a press release on Tuesday. In Peevski’s words, according to democratic tradition, the post of parliament chair should go to the largest political force, in this case – GERB, and declared his group’s readiness to back Borissov’s nomination.

In his statement, Peevski said that MRF-New Beginning is prepared to assume its share of responsibility for the governance of Bulgaria, sharing Borissov’s view that the country has reached a turning point that will determine whether it maintains stable state authority or faces another cycle of early elections. He emphasized that his party continues to support Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s government, despite not holding any positions in the executive branch, and called for a reconfiguration of the governing structure with clearly defined responsibilities for all participating parties.

Peevski also announced plans to form a negotiating team and expressed readiness for talks with Zhelyazkov, Borissov, and representatives of the other governing parties. He underscored the importance of stability as Bulgaria approaches eurozone accession and the adoption of its first budget in euro, which he said must address public sector pay, social commitments, and local government needs.

He concluded that MRF-New Beginning would not allow Bulgaria to fall “into the hands of false saviours and fake democrats,” voicing his party’s decision to support GERB’s nominee Boyko Borissov for National Assembly Chair.
