The Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) has signed the request for the resignation of Anti-Corruption Commission Chair Anton Slavchev, ARF Deputy Floor Leader Taner Ali told journalists in Parliament on Friday.

"We are ready to support this act because our parliamentary group and our voters have been the most affected by this Commission," Ali argued.

He noted that the country could lose funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan if the Anti-Corruption Commission is dissolved. "Our proposal may be for it to become an independent body of experts, who are selected through a competitive process," Ali commented.

ARF opposes the amendments to the Penal Code proposed by There Is Such a People (TISP), which would criminalize the dissemination of information about a person's private life without their consent.

"We are completely against this bill, because we cannot silence journalism. I cannot understand it – TISP, who used to always address you [journalists] as 'colleagues' because they consider themselves journalists with their shows and TV channels, suddenly turned against their colleagues," Ali told reporters. "If someone has a problem with journalists, there is a court system, there is a justice system," the MP added.
