A total of 419 unexploded ordnance items were destroyed by units of the Bulgarian Armed Forces in 2025, the Defence Ministry told the Bulgarian News Agency in response to an inquiry.

Between January and December 2025, Land Forces units tasked with reconnaissance and disposal of unexploded ordnance took part in 42 operations to destroy discovered unexploded ordnance across the country, eliminating 372 items by controlled detonation.

Navy units were activated 36 times following reports of objects suspected to be dangerous munitions in the areas of Varna, Dobrich and Burgas, as well as in Bulgaria’s maritime zones. As a result, 24 unexploded ordnance items were destroyed, including artillery shells, hand grenades, a historic naval mine, mortar rounds, cartridges, a remotely controlled vessel, four munition remnants and four remnants of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Specialized units of the Air Force destroyed three unexploded ordnance items.

The disaster response and recovery unit of the Vasil Levski National Military University destroyed 11 unexploded ordnance items.
