The Munich-based Slaveya Quintet dance ensemble will perform two dances at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling Bulgarian folklore festival, which will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich.
"Kaval Sviri tells the story of a young girl who drifts off to the distant sound of a kaval and wonders if the man standing behind the kaval might not be her future husband. Polegnala е Todora recreates a short but moving moment in which a young girl sees her love in a dream. The two songs reveal different faces of love, one as longing and the other as a hidden vision,” the dance ensemble noted.
“By coincidence, we work remotely, divided between Bulgaria and Germany, a fact that gives an even more special flavour to our joint work. Our preparation takes place in an environment that is not typical for similar groups, as we rehearse under the remote guidance of our conductor Dafinka Stoyanova, who joins digitally from over 1,500 km away,” the Nightingale Quintet pointed out.
Thus, each rehearsal becomes a meeting between different points on the map, united by their common aspiration for music, they emphasized.
The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
