Director of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Population Protection Alexander Dzhartov told reporters here on Friday that first responders were forced to act in extremely harsh conditions yet again.
Dzhartov reported that over the past 24 hours, his directorate received 312 alerts related to the extreme weather, most of which were related to fallen trees.
He said: "Unfortunately, in areas where heavy rainfall occurred, we lost human lives. Our condolences go out to all the relatives of those who died."
The head of the fire safety service noted that climatic conditions are changing significantly, which poses new challenges. In his words: "You can see that the climate is changing. We are moving seamlessly from the season of severe fires to the season of floods. That is why we need to start thinking more about prevention, because it is key."
Dzhartov reported that teams will remain on duty overnight in the Elenite villa complex.
