The National Council for Civil Society Development (CCSD) has launched the preparation of a roadmap for a Strategy to Support the Development of Civil Society Organizations in Bulgaria, the Government press service reported on Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, who chaired the Council’s first in-person meeting, expressed hope that its current composition would enable effective cooperation between the State and civil society.
The participants reached consensus on the procedure for presenting a unified position of the Council. The procedure, presented by Zahari Yankov, legal expert at the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law, will ensure that the Council can issue opinions on draft laws initiated both by Members of Parliament and by the Council of Ministers.
The CCSD also selected the pending drafts on which to issue its unified opinions, including a general draft law on promoting volunteering, amendments to the Pre-school and School Education Act, and amendments to the Consumer Protection Act.
The Council is composed of 14 civil organizations.
