Interior Minister Daniel Mitov must take responsibility for the inadequate actions of his ministry, Velichie MP Krasimira Katincharova told reporters in Parliament on Wednesday regarding the assault on the police chief in Ruse.

She added that Mitov’s resignation is a necessary step in accepting this responsibility.

Katincharova called for transparency regarding the incident and added that youths who have not been convicted should not remain in detention. “They are not likely to attack anyone, and we should avoid getting bogged down in technicalities,” she said.

Katincharova also pointed out that there is no forensic report confirming the presence of alcohol in the police chief’s blood.

She said that trust in both the police and the Interior Ministry had been undermined.
