Navy personnel from eight countries are participating in the Triton 2025 Diving Exercise, the press centre of the Bulgarian Navy said on Tuesday in Varna.

Representatives from the navies of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkiye, the US, Poland, Spain, Italy and France are participating in the exercise, which will last until September 19 in the area of the Naval Base in the seaside city and in the territorial waters of Bulgaria.

The exercise is being held for the fifth consecutive year. The Bulgarian Navy emphasized that the need for joint training is determined by the changed security environment in the Black Sea region. "The unpredictability of the threat posed by drifting mines makes the planning and conduct of mine countermeasures operations to neutralize them a regular activity for the Bulgarian and allied forces," they noted.

Triton 2025 is conducted according to NATO standards and procedures. The training will focus on improving the level of interoperability and training personnel at the tactical level when conducting diving and mine countermeasure operations in a coalition format. At sea, procedures for detecting, classifying and disposing of unexploded ordnance, drifting and bottom mines will be practiced.
