Workers at the TEREM – Khan Krum Military Repair Plant in Targovishte stopped working for an hour on Tuesday to protest against a proposal by the plant’s management to reduce their working day to four and a half hours, Krasimir Stoichkov, Trade Union Chair at the Federation of Independent Trade Unions in Defense of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions, told BTA on Tuesday.

Disagreeing with the proposal, workers marched to a roundabout on the main Sofia – Varna road near Targovishte, but did not stop traffic as they did not want to antagonize other citizens.

Stoichkov stressed that the main reason for their protest was that the workers and employees are not responsible for the fact that the company has not enough work. He stated that such a situation causes workers to leave. "Some of those leaving are people in key positions, after them there will be no one to work, we will not be able to fulfill our orders", he said.

The protest actions will continue at least until the end of this week or until the discussion on reducing the length of the working day is stopped, Stoichkov also emphasized.

The company currently employs a total of about 120 people. Delays in the payment of salaries were the reason for prolonged protests at the beginning of 2025.
