The parliamentary environment and water committee will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday. The agenda includes discussion and preparation of a draft resolution by the National Assembly for taking urgent measures to overcome the water crisis. This was announced on the Parliament's website. The meeting is scheduled for 2.30 pm.

MRF-New Beginning Delyan Peevski called for the emergency meeting on Tuesday. According to him, the escalating problem of water shortages for the population requires urgent and determined action.

In a statement to the media on Wednesday, the parliamentary group of Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria said that the convening of an emergency meeting of the committee is an attempt by Peevski and the majority controlled by him to shift responsibility from the executive branch to the National Assembly.

Regarding the water crisis in some settlements in Bulgaria, GERB leader Boyko Borissov expressed hope that the government would take swift action to bring in water, drill for water, and repair the water supply and sewerage network.

A possible state of disaster in Pleven will be used to award contracts worth tens of millions of leva, according to Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov.

The issue of the water shortage, in particular the situation in Pleven, was also addressed by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at the start of yesterday’s government meeting. He announced that the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works is launching a procedure for the preparation of a detailed development plan and a pre-investment study for the construction of the Cherni Osam reservoir, a drinking water treatment plant, a hydroelectric power station, and a main water supply pipeline.

The Municipality of Pleven will review all of its proposals under its investment program and will receive full political support from the government to restructure these proposals and redirect them primarily toward the development of water and sewer infrastructure, the Prime Minister also said.

At an emergency meeting yesterday, the Pleven Municipal Council decided to establish a temporary committee to address water supply problems.
