From October, Ryanair will be launching a new flight route to Milan from Plovdiv Airport, Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov and Ryanair's Director of Communications for Central and Eastern Europe Alicia Wojcik-Golebiovska said during a press conference here on Wednesday.

Dimitrov emphasized that the cooperation between Plovdiv Municipality and Ryanair will be beneficial to Plovdiv and the whole of Southeastern Bulgaria "These opportunities are due to the fact that we have more tourists, more cultural events, development of municipalities in the region, there are opportunities for winter tourism. We have more and more things happening in Plovdiv and more domestic tourism," he stressed.

Wojcik-Golebiowska indicated that the airline company is committed to developing its presence in Plovdiv in the coming years and emphasized that Ryanair is the largest airline in Europe. "Our plan is to carry up to 300 million passengers per year by 2034. We plan to make Plovdiv part of our decade of development," she pointed out, adding that this year in Bulgaria, Ryanair is present at 4 airports and plans to carry over 3 million passengers, providing jobs for over 2,000 people in the process.

From Plovdiv Airport, the company will operate four routes to London, Manchester, Birmingham and the new one to Milan in 2025. New ones will be opened in 2026, but it has not yet been specified how many and to which countries. Dimitrov pointed out that according to the development plan for Plovdiv Airport, the airport is planned to have 11 routes by 2032, and of the new routes that will be opened in 2026, the municipality will insist that one be to Spain.
