Reservoir levels at the beginning of July 2025 are similar to those recorded during the same period of 2024 and are deemed sufficient, according to the Environment and Water Ministry, Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov told reporters Tuesday. He was speaking in the south-central town of Saedinenie at the official opening of a reconstructed irrigation canal.
Tahov noted that a public procurement procedure has been launched specifically for the Pyasachnik reservoir, including the purchase of a pump. “No action has been taken on this for over 15 years. We strongly hope that by next year, Pyasachnik will be fully functional,” he said.
The minister added that the government is ready to expand Bulgaria’s hydrotechnical network. “We have secured BGN 1.5 billion in the state budget through 2028, some BGN 330–340 million annually. These funds will support not only the modernization and rehabilitation of existing canals but also the completion of new reservoirs and the restoration or construction of additional canals,” Tahov explained.
He said that six reservoirs across the country, whose construction had been previously suspended, are planned to be completed.
