Todor Kapitanov, Vice President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), was not arrested but taken away for questioning, Aleksandar Markov from the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Plovdiv said to reporters on Monday. He specified that Kapitanov will be released after the case is clarified.
Kapitanov was taken to the local administration office in the village of Trud following a clash with law enforcement officers during an attempt by protesters to block traffic on the Trakia Motorway. Despite the attempt, traffic on the motorway was not disrupted. Markov stated that before the start of the protest on the Trakia Motorway, Kapitanov was handed a police order not to incite or encourage protesters to violate public order.
Markov emphasized that the Trakia Motorway is a high-speed road, and its closure is not permitted under any law, which is why the police aimed to prevent its closure.
