On Wednesday, Flemming Stender, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Bulgaria, presented to the members of the Euroclub at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry the priorities of Denmark as the rotating President of the Council of the EU for the next six months of 2025. Ambassador Stender participated in a meeting organized by the Euroclub on the occasion of the end of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council and the start of the Danish Presidency.

The motto of the Danish Presidency is “A Strong Europe in a Changing World” and has two main areas of focus – security and competitiveness, and a green Europe.

“The EU must be a strong player. We must strengthen Europe politically, economically and militarily,” Ambassador Stender said, describing the moment of taking over the presidency as fateful, coming amid major changes – the transformation of world trade, changes in the security environment, climate change and the need for an ambitious transformation of the competitiveness of the European economy, etc.

In the field of security, where, according to the diplomat, Europe must be responsible for its own security in cooperation with NATO, the Danish Presidency's programme envisages action in the following areas: security and defence; EU support for Ukraine; protection against illegal migration; sustainability of democracy and upholding European values and the rule of law; building global partnerships; a results-based approach to the enlargement process and economic security.

The Danish Presidency's agenda for competitiveness and a green Europe, where the aim is to accelerate the green transition, includes actions to simplify and reduce barriers; expand the EU's network of trade agreements; strengthen the single market; accessible and renewable energy; and laying solid foundations for negotiations on the EU's next Multiannual Financial Framework.

Ambassador Stender congratulated Bulgaria on the decision of July 8 to adopt the euro.
