As a result of the measures of several governments, 113 unregulated landfills have been removed, Environment and Water Minister Manol Genov said in Parliament during a debate on Velichie's no-confidence motion against the Zhelyazkov Cabinet over its environmental policy. "Do the math on how much this costs, how much effort and how many governments," he added.

"I will not allow manipulations to be made from this rostrum. You see for yourself the results of the efforts of several governments," he added. He said there were two unregulated landfills left which needed to be cleaned up. They were beyond the scope of all these procedures, the Environment Minister noted. "I remind the MPs that we should talk about circular economy," Genov added. "Don't manipulate the Bulgarian MPs and the public by using this platform," he addressed the sponsors of the motion from Velichie.

In his words, extremely false suggestions and manipulations are made with statements. He noted that Italy had been fined EUR 40 million (EUR 200,000 per unregulated landfill), Greece EUR 10 million, and the same fines were imposed on Slovenia and France. There were criminal proceedings against Bulgaria, but thanks to the efforts of several governments, most of them were closed, Minister Genov explained.
