Head of State Rumen Radev held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi, Radev’s press centre said Monday.

Bulgaria highly appreciates Qatar's efforts to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East and its contribution to the release of the Galaxy Leader crew, President Rumen Radev said during a meeting with Qatar’s top diplomat, which was also attended by the Ambassador of Qatar to Bulgaria, Fahad Ibrahim Ali Al-Mushiri.

The Bulgarian President highly appreciated Qatar's consistent efforts to end the military actions in the Middle East and the subsequent search for a sustainable peaceful solution through diplomacy. In this regard, Rumen Radev expressed his gratitude for the commitment of Qatar and personally of the Emir of Qatar to the release of the crew on board the hijacked ship “Galaxy Leader”, which included two Bulgarian citizens, as well as for the release of two Bulgarian hostages held by Hamas.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Qatar, which is a prerequisite for the two countries to join forces to harness the full potential of bilateral cooperation, was the common position during the conversation. “For Bulgaria, Qatar is a key partner in the Middle East, and our country strives to ensure that bilateral political dialogue is accompanied by deepening cooperation and business ties in order to achieve more concrete results,” said the President, emphasising the significant potential for Qatari investments in Bulgaria, as well as for the creation of joint ventures in a number of areas. Among the areas with significant potential for cooperation between Bulgaria and Qatar are energy, the economy, high technology, innovation and education, security, transport and tourism.
