At the Medical University of Pleven, 1,360 foreign students from 53 countries are currently studying in the Medicine specialty in English, Velina Dukova from the university's press centre told BTA on Tuesday.
The most numerous are students from Italy, India and Great Britain, followed by Japan and Ireland.
The Medical University of Pleven is the first medical university in Bulgaria to admit foreign students in the Nursing specialty. Dukova emphasized that the university also stands out as a pioneer in the introduction of English-language education for foreign students in the specialties of Medicine and Nursing.
Since the introduction of medicine education in English in 1997 the university has seen 22 graduate classes of foreign doctors who have found successful professional realization in Europe, the US, Africa, Asia and Australia.
