“We are satisfied with the ruling of the Constitutional Court. Our position was right and responsible to begin with,” Raya Nazaryan, GERB-UDF deputy floor leader, told journalists in parliament. On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court's decision admitted partially for consideration President Rumen Radev's request regarding the decision of Parliament chair Nataliya Kiselova to reject his proposal for a referendum on the euro.

The ruling of the Constitutional Court confirms our initial opinions on the case, namely that Radev's actions are unconstitutional, Nazaryan said. She was adamant that the President's actions were not aimed at asking people and advancing democracy in Bulgaria, but on the contrary, at obstruction and destabilization.

Asked about the opinion expressed by the president during his visit to Uzbekistan and the interview he gave to CNN, in which he again spoke about his proposal for a referendum, Denitsa Sacheva, GERB-UDF deputy floor leader, recalled that when the president addressed the Constitutional Court, he had commented on these actions from Japan.

“We find it interesting that he reported to us via CNN from Tashkent his opinion regarding the final decision of the Court. I think the President is making it very clear that he is actually working for his own political project. Perhaps it is high time that he declared himself as the leader of the Botas Party and did so already. Everything else is really quite irresponsible, Sacheva said. She was adamant that it was not right for the head of state to comment on the state in this way.

The decision for Bulgaria to join the EU was taken decades ago. Decades and generations of Bulgarians have worked for Bulgaria to be part of the EU, to participate fully in decision-making and we are working for that. We are implementing the will of the people and we are working for what the people want. In this sense, all the other decisions Radev is calling for are obviously an attempt to play with people's fears for personal gain, Sacheva said.
