site.btaCircus Parade in Sofia in 1960

The BTA Archive holds photos of an unusual procession in central Sofia in the summer of 1960. "Artists and animals from the visiting German Circus Busch paraded noisily through several of the capital's boulevards, led by an orchestra. Thousands of citizens watched the extraordinary parade, headed by elephants and camels," reads the caption of one photo.
Circus Busch (or Zirkus Busch) was one of the most famous and prestigious circuses in Germany and Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded by Paul Busch in the late 1800s, the circus quickly gained a reputation for grand performances, impressive animal acts, and high-quality entertainment.
