Bulgarian Consul General in Thessaloniki Anton Markov and the Directors General of BTA and the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) were among the guests on the last day of the International Summer Leadership Academy in Kavala, Greece. The 8th edition of the educational forum was organized by the University of Telecommunications and Posts in Sofia, the higher education institution said in a press release Thursday.

“Stay focused on your studies and remember that your future is much brighter than ours,” Consul General Markov told the forum participants, managing to answer all the questions posed by the audience.

BTA Director General Kiril Valchev gave a lecture on education and science in the media. "A very important part of presenting science, education and the economy in the media is to do it in an understandable way,” Valchev said. He answered many questions from the students regarding the role of media in society, how it is changing in relation to social networks and the development of artificial intelligence, and differentiated traditional media from popular information channels for young people on the Internet. "A key feature of the media is the editorial responsibility. Behind it are a whole series of ethical rules," the BTA Director General said.

BNR Director General Milen Mitev talked about media literacy, how public media helps education, and how education helps media. “Education is a particularly important foundation of any society, and all the problems we talk about can be solved through education,” he said, adding that by inertia, we tell ourselves that life is better in the West and underestimate what we achieve and what we can do, and we overestimate everything that comes from outside. “We as media should talk more about the achievements of Bulgarian education and science and about what you as young people can actually get from education in a Bulgarian university,” Mitev addressed the students in attendance.

Closing the forum, the Rector of the University of Telecommunications and Posts, Prof. Miglena Temelkova, thanked everyone for their participation, for provoking each other, and for reflecting on many topics. She expressed the hope that they will take part in the next editions of the summer academy. Next year, there will be many inspiring speakers with interesting and thought-provoking presentations, she added.
