Sales of electric cars are growing significantly, said Automotive Cluster Bulgaria CEO Lyubomir Stanislavov, during the international conference Automotive Forum 2025 in Sofia. BTA is a media partner of the forum. Stanislavov added that this trend is accelerating the electrification process.

"We are currently in the second stage of electrification. The process has been developing for years and there is a significant growth in electric cars," Stanislavov noted, adding that this is also due to the support of the European Commission. The growth is also observed in Bulgaria.

The executive director of Automotive Cluster Bulgaria predicted that in just 2-3 years, about 100 different brands of electric cars will be offered in Europe and Bulgaria, with approximately half of them likely to be Chinese. At the same time, European manufacturers are also responding actively and successfully competing with Chinese brands, Stanislavov added.

He also noted that moving around with an electric car can now be better financially than using public transport, especially if the car is charged at home, at night. "With these new technologies, it is cheaper to move around with a private car than with public transport," Stanislavov commented. He said that  in the future, traveling from one point to another with an electric car will be almost free, a change of great importance.

Global politics also has had a significant impact on the industry, he added.
