To have good corporate governance, all employees need to be involved, because it is not just the management's commitment, but the whole company's, and the interests of both those inside the company and those outside need to be taken into account. by Petya Hantova, Director of the Investment Supervision Directorate at the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) said during the conference on OECD corporate principles and the best practices for sustainable growth organized by the Commission and the National Commission on Corporate Governance (NCGC). The event takes place at the Hyatt Hotel in Sofia. 

Hantova stressed that corporate governance is a system of rules, mechanisms and procedures that determine the goals and strategies of a company and how they can best be achieved. 

In her words, good corporate governance basically aims to protect the rights of shareholders, who are the investors in companies. 

A good partnership between the Commission, the NCGC, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange and the companies are the basis for building a good corporate governance system, Hantova said.

Natalia Petrova, chairwoman of the National Commission on Corporate Governance, said that all companies in the premium and standard segments of the BSE had filed a corporate governance statement for last year.

She added that there has been a steady increase in the number of companies applying the National Code of Corporate Governance, with the percentage now at 80%.

Petrova also reported that there has been an increase in the number of companies with ESG policies in place (a concept that combines responsible corporate governance in the areas of environmental, social and internal processes).
