Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said that the current levels of migrant pressure in the country are "historically low". Speaking to journalists in Yambol, Southeastern Bulgaria, on Friday, he expressed hope that this would continue.

"The excellent dialogue we have with the Turkish state contributes to this," Zafirov underlined.

"I would like to reassure the Bulgarian citizens that an increased migrant wave is not expected, despite the geopolitical upheavals we are witnessing. At the same time, the country is ready to absorb such a wave. I have always been one of the advocates of strengthening border security, of involving the army when there is a need," he added.
