Customs Inspectors found a total of 106,800 pieces of illegal cigarettes during inspections of three vehicles at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the border with Turkiye, the Customs Agency's press service in Svilengrad said on Friday.
73,000 of the cigarettes without a Bulgarian excise stamp were found in the cargo hold of a truck traveling from Turkiye via Bulgaria to the United Kingdom. A total of 13,400 cigarettes were found under the engine of a car with Romanian registration, while another 19,800 pieces of cigarettes were found a few days earlier during a customs inspection of a truck transporting goods from Turkiye to Germany.
Since the beginning of 2025, customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint have seized over 950,000 pieces of cigarettes, according to data from the Customs Agency.
