Velichie parliamentary group Wednesday issued a statement in relation to a statement by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the expected convergence report on Bulgaria's readiness to join the euro area. Georgieva said that the news will be good and most likely the convergence report will be positive, said Velichie Floor Leader Ivelin Mihaylov, who read the declaration from the National Assembly rostrum. "There is no more shameful page in Bulgaria's history," he added.

"In 2007, I, my family and people I know were very hopeful and very happy," Mihaylov said. He noted that back then there was hope and faith in the future. "There was incredible approval in the Bulgarian people for our accession to the European Union. Why? First, when one reads the European values, and sees that they are made for real people," Mihaylov said.

The law has weight only in the hands of Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski and GERB Floor Leader Boyko Borissov, Mihaylov added. Human rights are only for those in power, they are a new category, he said. "We are not a republic in which people who are knowledgeable, capable, and of good quality can develop - they have to be close to those in power," Mihaylov added.

"When we joined the EU, we believed we had fair and just allies who would help us fight the mafia. Throughout all these years we have strived to be worthy members and always the Bulgarian people have been the most loyal. It was the politicians who always sold out the Bulgarian interest," he said.

"The most dishonest were the government in the face of Borissov, Peevski and the so-called democratic forces, for which I personally have concrete evidence of lies, provocations of the democratic forces to destroy the businesses of thousands of people and nothing, no reaction," Mihaylov said. The EU could have somehow come out with a declaration to condemn these actions and empower the opposition in Bulgaria, he said.

Bulgaria had the most undemocratic elections in the world and the EU said nothing, Mihaylov added.
