MPs of the Yes, Bulgaria! Party have submitted a motion for the setting up of an ad hoc parliamentary committee of inquiry into a "clandestine" energy holding company, the party said in a press release on Monday. The motion was prompted by findings of the Anti-Corruption Fund (ACF) regarding the Orion company managed by businessman Hristo Kovachki.

The ACF investigation is quoted as revealing illegal financial incentives for civil servants, multi-million tax and social-security fraud , greenhouse gas allowances fraud and leaks of information about upcoming European Public Prosecutor's Office investigations. Documents and witness accounts published by the Fund shed a light on mechanisms that distort the market, harm consumers, compromise energy security, and erode public trust in institutions.

The MPs argue that an ad hoc committee needs to be established to protect the public interest because of the well-founded suspicions about the existence of an organized economic structure posing a direct threat to national security, energy stability, and democratic governance. The committee would be tasked with establishing the facts and circumstances surrounding Kovachki's activities and the entities linked to him, as well as evaluating the actions and inactions of the competent government institutions. Measures are also needed to restore trust in the public administration and ensure fairness and legality in the energy sector, the press release said.
